Any spiritual endeavor is bound to failure if it stands upon man's wisdom. A deep and abiding faith in Christ — his total ability to provide and uphold his people and the work he gives them — is the first and foremost value of Haven. We will go forward in unified faith.

"Without faith, it is impossible to please Him."— Hebrews 11

God has called us to this ministry, and from His throne alone we will seek wisdom to carry it on. All decisions of consequence are made only after seeking the face of God in prayer, going forward only when the Spirit of God has given peace and unity for the decision. All members of the board are expected to bring this same prayerful attitude to every decision.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him."— James 1:5

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."— Proverbs 3:5–6

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."— Matthew 6:33

Given the nature of the work we seek to accomplish in caring for the "orphans," valuing the biblical structure of family is imperative. A family, at best, operates according to the roles established in Ephesians 5 and 6. While a traditional family structure isn't required of everyone who serves at Haven, it is the ideal setting for a child to be trained up within. What we value is the totality of Christ-likeness found within a godly family functioning properly in accordance with biblical instruction — agape love (1 Corinthians 13), biblical unity (1 Peter 3:8), encouragement (Ephesians 4:15–16), and God-ordained roles (Ephesians 5:22–6:4).

"Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind."— 1 Peter 3:8

A major part of Haven will be the strength, encouragement, compassion, and love experienced within this Christian community. A theme throughout Scripture is that Christians should love one another just as Christ has loved us — and that kind of love requires the framework of community to thrive within. It's a beautiful thing when brothers and sisters in Christ thrive in unified community together.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow... a threefold cord is not quickly broken."— Ecclesiastes 4:9–12

"Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together... encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."— Hebrews 10:24–25

There is a true wonder that God has imbued in nature. It's hard to describe, but easy to feel. Nature, at rest, is a place that brings healing, closeness to God, and perspective to the busy, man-made life we often find ourselves operating within. We believe nature in its various forms should remain integral to Haven's operation as a God-given tool for healing, rest, joy, peace, curiosity, love, knowledge, and perspective.
